The Clarets Trust is pleased to announce that former Burnley Football Club director Clive Holt has joined its Board.

Clive’s arrival is a significant addition for the Trust, bringing with him a wealth of experience, knowledge and deep affection for Burnley Football Club.

Clive first joined the Burnley FC Board in July 1986, shortly before the pivotal 1986/87 season in which the Club came perilously close to losing its Football League status. He remained a director for almost 35 years, becoming the Club’s longest-serving director before standing down following the takeover in December 2020.

During those years, Clive experienced Burnley’s remarkable journey from the difficult days of the old Fourth Division to promotions under Jimmy Mullen, Stan Ternent, Owen Coyle and Sean Dyche, and ultimately to established Premier League football. As a director and company secretary, he gained an exceptional understanding of the Club, its governance and the challenges involved in running it successfully.

Clive has always been much more than a boardroom figure. He is first and foremost a devoted Claret who has followed the team across the country, rarely missing a match during his years as a director. He understands Burnley supporters, the town and the culture surrounding the Club, and brings long-standing knowledge of both Burnley FC and the wider football community.

His experiences were captured in his 2023 book, Out of the Wilderness: A Director’s Life at Burnley FC, written with Dave Thomas. The book tells the inside story of a defining period in the Club’s history and reflects both Clive’s remarkable knowledge of Burnley FC and his unwavering commitment to its fortunes.

The Clarets Trust is proud to welcome someone of Clive’s standing and experience to its Board. His insight and passion for the Club will be hugely valuable as we continue our work to represent supporters and strengthen the relationship between Burnley FC and its fanbase.

We are delighted to welcome Clive to the Trust Board and look forward to working with him.
